Here at Mitsubishi Motors in the UK we recently celebrated the achievements of our second year technical apprentices with our 2018 Apprentice Awards.
The apprentices were judged not solely on exam grades, but also on attitude, commitment, punctuality and overall behaviour whilst attending training and during their residential stays at the Mitsubishi Training Academy in Cirencester. All of these are felt as key indicators for the overall success of any participant in the programme, and also in the wider working world.
Two awards were presented during a small prize giving, with the top award of Apprentice of the Year going to James Bishop from Fownhope Mitsubishi based in Hereford.
Speaking about James and his tremendous achievement Sam Peachey, Director at Fownhope Mitsubishi said “We believe in providing opportunities for young people in the community. We are extremely proud of James - it proves that hard work and dedication can provide a fantastic future for your career at such a young age. As a family business, we have helped him along the way, providing him with opportunities to practise what he has learned with a hands-on approach, and doing this early-on during the apprenticeship. We look forward to sharing the rest of his future career here at the dealership.”

The award for Most Improved Apprentice went to Jake Basham from EMG Motor Group in Duxford.
David Allanson, Service Manager at EMG Motor Group said “The team here at EMG are really proud of the way Jake has applied himself to the tasks put before him. As Jake moved into his second year, we gave him more responsibility which has led on to him being more focused and achieving great exam results. With the support he has been provided within the dealership and at the Mitsubishi Training Academy, we are looking forward to Jake achieving a great third year and being an accomplished Mitsubishi Master Technician in the years to come.”

Richard Weller, Aftersales Director here at Mitsubishi Motors in the UK was on hand to present the worthy winners with their awards along with a small gift. Speaking at the presentation Richard said “Promoting apprenticeships is key to building a sustainable business model along with training our next generation of Master Technicians. The modern apprenticeship is by no means easy and takes a lot of dedication and effort. I am very pleased we have such a capable and focused group in the programme.”
The Mitsubishi Training Academy is based at our HQ in Cirencester with the majority of training courses for the UK dealer network being held here. We currently have 45 apprentices enrolled across the various year groups, who on passing will all receive nationally recognised qualifications to IMI standards as well as learning functional skills and Mitsubishi specialist qualifications.
During their training, apprentices receive on-the-job experience and training at their local Mitsubishi dealer in the UK and also attend block release training at Cirencester.
