The Outlander's AWC (All Wheel Control) system offers three selectable, electronically controlled four-wheel drive modes. It is an 'on demand' system, which means that the car automatically calculates the optimum amount of torque required at each wheel, depending on driving conditions.
In 4WD ECO, the Outlander operates in front wheel drive for fuel-efficient driving; however, if the system detects a deterioration in road conditions, torque is automatically allocated to the rear wheels to help maintain safe progress. For improved traction on slippery road surfaces,
4WD AUTO controls the distribution of power to all four wheels, as well as enhancing stability whilst towing under all road conditions. To cope with more challenging off-road terrain such as mud, sand or wet grass,
4WD LOCK increases the amount of torque sent to the rear wheels to ensure maximum traction.
