Drive Mode Selector

Standard on: All Diesel Variants

Drive Mode Selector

The Outlander's AWC (All Wheel Control) system offers three selectable, electronically controlled four-wheel drive modes. It is an 'on demand' system, which means that the car automatically calculates the optimum amount of torque required at each wheel, depending on driving conditions. In 4WD ECO, the Outlander operates in front wheel drive for fuel-efficient driving; however, if the system detects a deterioration in road conditions, torque is automatically allocated to the rear wheels to help maintain safe progress. For improved traction on slippery road surfaces, 4WD AUTO controls the distribution of power to all four wheels, as well as enhancing stability whilst towing under all road conditions. To cope with more challenging off-road terrain such as mud, sand or wet grass, 4WD LOCK increases the amount of torque sent to the rear wheels to ensure maximum traction.

ABS with EBD

Standard on: All Variants

ABS with EBD

Lateral slippage can easily occur if the rear wheels lock up due to braking hard on slippery surfaces or braking hard when at high speeds. ABS suppresses this by controlling the brakes' hydraulic pressure. EBD adjusts the rear wheels' braking force to the number of occupants and load to deliver braking force that is ideally matched to almost any situation.

M-ASTC

Standard on: All Variants

M-ASTC

Active Stability Control - If sensors located throughout the car detect unstable movement, such as lateral slippage, the Stability Control function automatically controls the brakes and engine output to stabilise the car.

Traction Control - If the sensors detect wheel slip when starting on slick surfaces, such as a snow-covered road, the Traction Control function automatically brakes the slipping wheel and governs engine output to enable a smoother start.

Suspension

Standard on: All Variants

Suspension

The Outlander adopts a MacPherson strut design for its front suspension, which provides excellent on-road handling characteristics. The rear multi-link suspension has high-mounted trailing arm bushings, with improved dynamics to enhance ride comfort.

S-AWC (All-Wheel Control)

Standard on: All PHEV Variants

AWC (All-Wheel Control)

The Outlander's S-AWC (Super All-Wheel Control) technology oversees the operation of the electronically-controlled on-demand 4WD, ABS and M-ASTC systems, providing an integrated approach to handling, traction and stability. A key component in the drivetrain is the electronic control coupling, which allows varying amounts of torque to be directed to the rear wheels depending on driving conditions and traction needs.

Hill start assist

Standard on: All Variants

Hill start assist

When stopped on a slope, HSA (Hill Start Assist) automatically holds the brakes for about 2 seconds after the driver releases the brake pedal and applies the accelerator, to prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards.

Emergency stop signal system

Standard on: All Variants

Emergency stop signal system

ESS (Emergency Stop Signal System) reduces the possibility of rear end collisions during sudden braking by the rapid and automatic blinking of the hazard warning lamps to alert vehicles approaching from behind.

Gear Shift Indicator

Standard on: All Diesel variants

Gear Shift Indicator

The Gear Shift Indicator encourages fuel efficient driving by indicating the optimal gear shifting points to the driver. The horizontal bar-type econometer and range remaining display are continuously updated depending on current driving style, providing a further visual incentive for economical driving.
